Take the Cache and Run

Sunday, February 29th, 2004

A brilliant day geocaching with my friends of Team Tate, followed by meeting loads of other cachers in a pub! The caches we did were…
Headley Ford
Common Find It
Lambourn Way
Boxford Stash
Boxford Common
Froudes Bridge
I can’t remember what the pub was called, but it was nice that when we got there we saw loads of other cachers including Anne and Brian, Billy No Buddies, Bloke1987, The Bramblers, DJH, Esscafe, Krazy Kats, Liz Codd, Merman, Motley Crew, Mr and Mrs Hedgehog, Omally, Paul and Judith, Pharisee, Rincewind and Luggage, Scoutabout, Team Blitz, Tim and June and Woodsmoke.

The day was even more special because I found my 100th cache at Common Find It, and because I was caching with the mates who introduced me to this zany sport in the first place. Then at the pub we had a game of non-virtual Pingu Baseball…all you ned is a baseball bat and a penguin, if you hasven’t got a real one steal Woodsmoke’s daughter’s cute Pingu slipper!

Oh, and the mighty Pompey FC held Newcastle to a draw.

Movie Madness

Sunday, February 29th, 2004

In the madness that comes from trying to avoid Eurovision, I watched a film last night that I’d video’ed goodness knows when – “Avalanche Express”. In spite of having some big name stars (Lee Marvin, Linda Evans, and the German colonel from ‘Allo allo’), the was more like “The Thunderbird puppets do serious drama”. Oh, and the story itself was a bit dodgy too, in spite of being based on a Colin Forbes book.

“Jonathon Creek”, on the other hand, was much better, despite being a bit far fetched. And Inever knew Oliver Sterling was so nasty (non-Archers listeners ignore that last comment).

And now it’s time to go geocaching…

Lazy Saturday Afternoon

Saturday, February 28th, 2004

Well, I’ve spent a day finding out what it’s like not to have a car…and I don’t think much of it! The day has been a riotous round of
a) Getting a haircut
b) Visiting “World of Quid” shopping for cache bits and bobs
c) Getting ready for a caching grand day out tomorrow – luckily the friends I’m going with (Team T8) had agreed to drive!

On the plus side, I went to the pub this morning, knowing that whatever happened I wouldn’t be driving later in the day.

Is it nearly bedtime yet?

Well, I’ve got myself organised with a “real” blog. I wonder what I can write about? This weekend I will be mostly sitting at home staring at a screen, on account of Mr Car Mechanic not letting me drive my car away yesterday.

Don’t worry, I’ll try to make it more interesting than this…

Down, Down, I’m Feeling Down…

Friday, February 27th, 2004

When you’re on top of the world, it’s all downhill from there!
OK, it’s not quite that bad, but it seems like it right now! Last week went really well – I received my exam results a week early, and not only did I pass, I got a Distinction! Then there was some good news about my mate John, who’s had a stroke…the hospital said he was almost ready to go home. And then I heard that a friend of mine has met a new chap, and things are looking hopeful for her…

Then I heard that John had had another stroke, in the hospital. And today, my car was in the garage to have some trivial work done, and while it was there they discovered something non-trivial and expen$ive…and I’m without the car for the weekend.

Oh well, it could have been worse…the problem was going to show itself soon anyway, and it’s in the right place…
